Lights On Afterschool

WHAT IS LIGHTS ON AFTERSCHOOL?

Lights On Afterschool is a national event to help raise awareness about the importance of afterschool and community-based programs during the non-school hours. More information about Lights On Afterschool is available on the Afterschool Alliance's website.

Last year's Lights On Afterschool took place on Thursday, October 21, 2010. Youth Community Connections encouraged local and statewide afterschool and community--based organizations to highlight their programs. Lights On Afterschool events are a perfect opportunity for engaging community leaders and elected officials in your work.

Mark your calendars for the 12th annual Lights On Afterschool on October 20, 2011. For helpful information on planning your event, check out the Afterschool Alliance's Event Planning Kit. Be sure to register your 2011event on-line by visiting the Afterschool Alliance's Host an Event

LIGHTS ON AFTERSCHOOL IN MINNESOTA 2010

On October 10th, 2010 Youth Community Connections (YCC) joined the Young Leaders of Children’s Defense Fund-Minnesota, along with other key youth organizations, in a march and rally to bring attention to ten specific issues concerning Minnesota’s youth.  YCC coordinated an out-of-school time tent to highlight the benefits and need for quality out-of-school time learning opportunities and saw nearly 1,000 youth and families.  In conjunction with that event, Governor Pawlenty declared October 10th Lights On Afterschool Day in Minnesota.
